Former PlayStation software boss becomes president of Atari
Phil Harrison, one of the early personnel behind PlayStation’s software business, surprised the industry when he announced his resignation from his post as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studio.
Not missing a single business day since his last moment at Sony, Harrison has officially been announced as the new president of Infogrames Entertainment – more popularly known for its Atari brand.
Harrison’s new official title will be “President and Directeur Général Délégué” of the company, and will report to CEO David Gardner. Phil Harrison will oversee content development, boost publishing activities, and reinforce the company’s franchise portfolio of products.
“This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari - one of the industry’s legendary brands,” said Harrison. “As the game business moves rapidly online I believe we have an outstanding opportunity to create amazing network game and community experiences for players the world over.”
“I am pleased to welcome Phil to Infogrames. He has an outstanding reputation in the industry, as one of the key leaders behind the success of PlayStation,” added David Gardner. “We have been seeking an opportunity to work together for some time and I am certain he will be able to make a significant contribution to the publishing strategy of the Group. Drawing upon Infogrames’ strong financial foundation, Phil will have the means to attract new talent, develop studio and online capabilities, and drive forward our publishing activities.”
In short, Harrison will be applying to Infogrames his keen developer management know-how, which helped shaped Sony’s internal game environment to what it is today.
