Toshiba plans to introduce two new 1.8-in. hard drives, which the company claims can reduce the storage footprint in ultra-portable and sub-notebook PCs by as much as 40% compared to traditional 2.5-in. drives.

Toshiba squeezes 5,400 rpm from 1.8-in. hard disk drive

Toshiba is set to unveil a line of micro-Serial ATA 1.8-in. disk drives that can operate at spin speeds of 5,400 rpm.
Toshiba said the 80GB MK8016GSG and 120GB MK1216GSG drives are slated to ship to mobile PC manufacturers and partners in April. The drives weigh about 62 grams, according to the company.
